Aw man, I can't wait to find out how J. Jonah Jameson is going to get out of this one.
For me it's the taste of those frosted animal crackers. Delicious!

“Having read a little about this I really question just how useful and how big a deal this really is. About a year ago I attended the proceedings of a murder trial (the wife of an acquaintance was murdered during a home invasion/robbery) in which the defendant claimed to be using his computer at the time of the murder. I was really interested in listening to testimony regarding the examination of the defendants computer. The police investigator described everything from the process of searching the defendants house, to locating & seizing the computer, and then performing the forensic analysis of the computer. He described how he physically removed the hard drive, used a hardware tool to make a duplicate copy of all the contents without altering the hard drive in any way, and then using a program to scan the drive for various bits of information. I don't recall the name of the program he used but it most certainly wasn't called COFEE and it also definitely wasn't a Microsoft product. What I do recall is that the program he used was something widely used in the law enforcement community for forensic computer analysis, something that's been vetted in numerous court proceedings over the years, and the procedures he followed weren't something an "average bobbie" would have done. He was an investigator specially trained in computer forensics. When the District Attorney first started questioning him he spent a good ten minutes or so simply going over the investigators credentials & training, experience with the software he used in performing the analysis, etc. From what I learned at the trial, police departments (at least here in the US) have specific investigators who are trained in dealing with computer analysis, have very specific set procedures, use specific tools, and use the same methods over and over because they've been fully vetted in previous trials so they don't have to spend hours on the stand testifying as to the accuracy & reliability of new/different tools & procedures. Although they didn't cover it in detail I believe it was mentioned that the software that was used could analyze Windows, Mac, linux, etc. After all it's just a matter of the app knowing how to mount various partition types in read-only mode and then scan the data for specific data structures.

You don't see it in the article or any local news stories for that matter, but if you read the comments on the link, you'll see just how difficult it was for the bus on that route to innocently make such a crash.I think this story is going to end up being much more complicated than it seems at first glance.

Is it me or do -all- (including and perhaps especially FireFox) browsers seem to suffer from serious memory usage issues?on my mac FireFox creeps up to 950MB or so over the course of a couple days (even without add-ons).Recently ditched it for Safari - which seems better. This used to be a major issue on my PC - but it's definitely gotten better since 3.0.I'm sure keeping every page you've opened for the last 5 days in RAM helps benchmark tests - but there's just no excuse for a web browser eating up half a system's memory....
